日本語版

Founded in 1897, “Matsukaze” is a traditional confectionery in Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Shokanji Maruho is the manufacturer. The wrapping has a heroic feel. The reason it looks torn is because I opened it before taking the picture and tried to put it back together in a hurry but could not restore it.

When you open the box, there is a green box. And when you open it, there are eight vacuum-packed sweets sitting.

Thin and crispy

This is what you get when you open the packed snacks. Made of beet sugar and poppy seeds, it contains many small strips of rice crackers. They are 1.2 mm thick, the thinnest in Japan, as they profess. There are so many sheets! Don’t you love it? There are 24 pieces! in one pack.

松風

It is a pleasure to eat thin sliced confectionery. It is very thin and elegant looking, and its elegant sweetness is perfect for tea sweets.

Craftsman’s work of art

松風

Because of its thinness, it is very difficult to maintain a constant taste. The flavor and texture change with temperature, so the confectionery combines the traditional taste of artisans who change the method of making it depending on the season.

The box also contained a brochure. He is the third generation owner of the store.

The dough is spread thinly on a griddle and sprinkled with poppy seeds on the surface and baked. The crispy texture and the savory taste of the poppy seeds are addictive. Try these sweets and you will be amazed at the Japanese confectionery craftsmanship.

They have a long shelf life, are reasonably priced, and are delicious and easy to eat. It also makes a great souvenir to take back from Kumamoto!
