Tsukuba City has the largest population growth rate in Japan, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. Now, fashionable cafes and restaurants are on the rise. Taking advantage of the countryside, many of them are spacious and have parking lots.
When you visit Ibaraki Prefecture or Tsukuba City, you should definitely stop by “Cornu Copia.” Isn’t it a nice entrance?
“Cornu Copia” is a symbol of the gods associated with harvest, prosperity, and spiritual abundance. It is derived from the Latin words “cornu” (horns) and “copia” (abundance). It is said to originate from the fact that they used to put various things in the horns.
“Handmade”
Handmade.
As their store card says, foods are handmade. Homemade fresh pasta noodles and home baked bread. They roast their own coffee beans, grow herbs in their garden, and use seasonal vegetables.
At the restaurant, they sell bread, biscotti, cookies, coffee, and flour. Lots of nice swag were displayed.
Resonance with the Philosophy
The small restaurant was originally started by an owner couple on the first floor of their home. Madame always says, “Life is made of memories. Therefore, she wanted the restaurant to be a place where people could gather, so she made it barrier-free, pet-friendly, and stroller-friendly. What is surprising is that the budget for making the restaurant barrier-free was raised through cloud funding. The amount of money raised was more than 2.6 times the planned amount. As a result, handrails and a very spacious restroom were installed.
The original designed mugs are also cute.
Terrace
There is also a nice terrace seating. In pleasant seasons and at night, it is a very popular place to sit. There is also a free zone at the back of the restaurant. It is an area that can be used freely by people with pets or children.
Relaxing
The restaurant is spacious and relaxing. The ceiling is high and the space is comfortable. The plaster walls were painted with the help of customers. It’s a nice finish. It’s so cozy!

It was after 2:00 p.m. when we visited. It was a calm time after the busy lunch time. Here is the menu.

What a surprise was the minestrone that came with the light meal. It is filled with a lot of vegetables. The sweetness and flavor of the vegetables melts into the gentle taste and warms your heart. And the quantity is generous. It is also topped with shredded cheese!
We ordered Ciabatta sandwich and roast beef sandwich.
Ciabatta is a typical Italian bread. This simple bread is made from flour, olive oil, salt, yeast, and water. It is crispy on the outside and glutinous on the inside. It is served with three kinds of ham, vegetables, and herbs. Each of the three kinds of ham is delicious and very satisfying.
The roast beef sandwich consists of roast beef and sauce jus on foccacia with a cutout in the middle. The foccacia is filled with potato salad, to which the roast beef is added, and then ready to eat. Some mint herbs, which made for a nice and fancy lunch. I really wanted to order dessert, but too full. It was a very satisfying and leisurely lunch.

I liked the ciabatta and focaccia so much I had to buy it! The restaurant also have a full take-out menu including sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and more. If you are visiting Doho Park, Ushiku Daibutsu, Yakiimo wizard shop, or other nearby locations, you can order in advance for an enjoyable delicious lunch.
You will feel very relaxed with delicious food and service with a nice smile.
