If you want to enjoy the Kyoto gourmet food “Yudofu(Boiled Tofu)”, go to Ryoanji Temple and Seigen-in Temple. Ryoanji Temple is known for its Zen garden “Rock Garden”, a World Heritage Site. After viewing the rock garden, you should definitely try the specialty “Seven Herb Yudofu” at Seigen-in Temple, a subtemple located in a corner of the Ryoanji temple grounds.
Seigen-in Temple is also a temple that was established in the Muromachi period, and is now a restaurant serving “Seven Herb Yudofu” within its grounds.
Beautiful Garden
Passing through the “◯Tenkaichi” noren curtain, a beautiful garden of moss and maple trees spreads out before you. When you go up to the dining room, you can view the garden from the front. A luxurious space.
Japanese Tatami-room
This is what the room looks like. There is a round low table in a tatami room. On the low table, there is a brazier, and a hot tofu pot is placed here. I ordered two sets of vegetarian cuisine and seven herb yudofu. Payment is made on the spot, cash only.
After ordering, we relaxed while looking at the Japanese garden. It was so quiet that we almost fell asleep. It was luxurious.
Seven Herb Yudofu (Boiled Tofu with Seven Herbs)
After a while, the Nanakusa Yudofu was brought out. I was surprised at how much tofu was in it. It contained millet gluten, Chinese cabbage, mizuna, carrots, shiitake mushrooms, green peppers, gluten, and kelp (seaweed). We scooped up the tofu with a spoon, put it in a bowl with garnished green onions and white sesame seeds, and poured the soy sauce in the tokkuri (Sake bottle) over it before eating.
The tofu made with soft groundwater was really delicious. My friend (an American) who went with me was also very satisfied. It was her first experience with yudofu and she became a big fan.
湯 豆腐を食べ、のんびりと過ごして、日本の食べ物は美味しいねの言葉をいただきました!みなさんもぜひ外国人を案内してみてください!
The vegetarian cuisine was also delicious. My friend said that she liked Shiraae the most, and she bought it at a supermarket we visited later. She said it as a gentle and delicious taste.
If you know when you will be visiting, it is wise to make a reservation.
