While you are in Japan, why not enjoy “Shonan Cheese Pie”

Delicious sweets quickly become popular nationwide. So, you can buy anywhere in Japan.　Good and bad. However, Shonan Cheese Pie is still only sold at the main store of Shonan Creative Gateau Ashi in the vicinity of Hiratsuka, Kanagawa prefecture making it difficult to purchase. There is an online store, though. When I take the Tomei Expressway, I often get off at Hiratsuka Exit just to visit this store. That’s how delicious the “Shonan Cheese Pie” is.

When you open the package, you will find a yellow box. It is a stylish outer box.

Layout

When you open the yellow box, you will find cheese stick pies packed nicely and tightly inside. The box is small, but it is filled to the stick pies. Since they are packed so tightly, they will not break during transport, making them ideal as souvenirs. By packing them tightly, the pies are kept from moving around, preventing them from breaking. In fact, I took some to Canada, and they were perfect, not broken at all.

粉糖がまぶされたチーズパイスティック。パイなのでサクサクした食感ありつつも、パイ生地とサブレ生地を交互にサンドして製造されていることで、固めで重めの食感です。チーズは、エダムチーズが使われているので、しっかりとしたチーズの風味を感じることができます。だ・か・ら、ワインにもピッタリなのよー。

Cheese sticks pies sprinkled with powdered sugar. They have the crisp texture of a pie, but because they are made by sandwiching pie dough and shortbread dough together, they have a firm and heavy texture. Edam cheese is used, so you can enjoy a rich cheese flavor. That’s why they go so well with wine, too.

I’ve loved this confectionery ever since I received it as a gift from a friend in Hiratsuka. The Yokohama branch store is the closest to Tokyo. Recently, when I brought it as a gift for a foodie friend living in Osaka, they immediately recognized it as the “Ashi’s Cheese Pie” and were thrilled. While it’s a bit inconvenient that it’s only available in Kanagawa prefecture, it does add to its exclusivity. Above all, its deliciousness is gaining recognition nationwide, so it’s wonderful to see others enjoy it. For that reason, I also purchase it as a gift for overseas trips. I highly recommend giving it a try.
