This snack is designed with the bear dancing in the commercial song of Bunmeido Castella shop that every Japanese has heard at least once. The bears have the round eyes, round ears, and all are cute.
It’s not just a cutie
So, it’s a snack from Bunmeido, which is famous for its castella. That’s why it tastes outstandingly delicious. The inside of the brown koguma wrapped in castella dough and sweet bean paste looks like this. It’s a little sad, but I cut it. Please forgive me.
The smooth castella dough and the refined flavor of the bean paste go well together and are delicious.
Rare snack
This snack is an extremely limited edition item. In 2022, Bunmeido Tokyo, which celebrated its 100th anniversary of opening a store in Tokyo, launched CONGALI Bunmeido, a baked confectionery shop of master craftsmen, as an exclusive brand for the Isetan Shinjuku store. The shop is only available at the Isetan Shinjuku store. And as it is a 3 o’clock snack, it is only sold from 3pm onwards.
Every day, freshly baked goods of the day are delivered at 3pm from a factory near the Isetan Shinjuku store. That’s why it is very rare.
Seasonal flavors
There are flavors for each season. This time, I was able to purchase the summer flavor “White Koguma Yaki.” The chewy white dough is made from tapioca flour and rice flour. Inside is juicy Okinawan pineapple paste. To be honest, I only bought it because I had the chance, so I didn’t have high expectations, but… it was incredibly delicious. It was light and refreshing. The summery white color and delicious paste were highly praised.
Koguma Yaki cannot be reserved in advance. Just head to the store when it goes on sale at 3pm! The expiration date is two days. So, eat it while it’s still delicious. Let’s have a happy time together with sweets.
