I went sightseeing in Kawagoe with a friend from Taiwan. When I went to the tourist information center in advance, I heard that
“Someone from Taiwan came over and asked me about the eel restaurant!I told them that Ogawa Kiku is the most popular one.”
So I decided to take my fried there with me.
As expected, this is Kawagoe’s most popular eel. The eel soaked in the delicious sauce spread in my mouth and was sucked into my mouth, devouring it in no time.
Get your numbered ticket first!
Since it is a popular store, we were advised that it is important to go in front of the store and get a numbered ticket before it opens at 11am. Thank you, information center!
Take a bus from Kawagoe Station and get off at the Nakamachi bus stop, which is the starting point of the main street. It’s about a 3 minute walk from there. We got numbered tickets around 10:30! It was already number 12.

While you are in Japan, why not visit Kawagoe and buy a Tobu bus one-day ticket?~tour #110~
I arrived at 11:05 and….
“We had number 13 come in on the first turn. Number 12 wasn’t there when we called, so we skipped him” the waiter said. We could be on the first turn…..
He called me first on the next turn and let me into the waiting room 15 minutes later! I didn’t have to wait too long! !
The beefsteak menu is also delicious
It’s an eel restaurant, but we also ordered a steak bowl, which was also delicious. It’s soft and has a melt-in-your-mouth taste. It’s perfectly rare, the sauce is perfect, and it’s packed full of meat.
It offers a taste that exceeds your expectations. If you have someone with you who doesn’t like eel, you can rest assured with Ogakiku.
Menu available in English and with photos
The difference in the price of eel jus is the difference in the amount of eel.

The Little Edo period
This is a house that truly gives you the feel of Kawagoe, the Little Edo period.
The interior looks like the following. It’s a wooden building with somewhat steep stairs and tatami rooms, giving it a Edo period feel.
If you just sit on the tatami, your legs tend to get tired. Especially for foreigners, many of them don’t have the habit of sitting on tatami mats, so having tables set up is very helpful.
