I went back to Robosyuan, a special and unique restaurant that I wanted to keep secret, so much so that I hesitated to write an article about it! But it’s too amazing to make it our own favorite. I’d love to share this experience with anyone who loves sake and delicacies.
⇒ Robosyuan(1) article is here.
I would also like to take knowledgeable Overseas Visitors here and, introduce the manager of this restaurant, who is an expert on sake, passionately convey the wonderfulness of sake, its depth, and its pairing with rare delicacies.
*We were told it was OK to post this on our personal blog, so we’ll take him up on his offer and share my excitement. Of course, I went with Furu-san again this time!
The entrance is confusing at first. It says Restaurant Narumi. The owner of the building has been running a restaurant in this location for 30 years, and it has become a part of the townscape so they decided to leave it as it is. There is a small lantern beside the entrance that says “Robosyuan,” so use that as your landmark.

The shop’s symbol, the giant sake menu on the wall
Seeing this makes me feel like I’ve returned to a store that puts a lot of effort into its selection. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to visit again.
The red paper indicates dry sake. Anything other than dry sake will have a white paper. There aren’t many dry sakes out there, so in order to enjoy a wide range of alcohol, talk to the store manager and choose a delicious drink without being too concerned about “dry.”
A lot of appetizers, a specialty of the restaurant
This is a hearty appetizer, a specialty of Robosyuan. Just this is enough to make you want to drink.
I won’t choose it myself! I’ll leave it to the manager. Manager!
What makes this restaurant special is the Master of Sake, the famous manager. You can entrust yourself to the manager and go on a sake journey. Listen to the manager’s recommendations and taste them, and you’ll be sure to be impressed.
If you tell him your preferences, he’ll bring out more and more.
I also ordered the sashimi platter, the third most popular dish, so he chose a dry sake that went well with the sashimi!
KID, a dry sake from Wakayama with a refreshing taste, goes perfectly with sashimi.
It said it was a 3-item platter, but to my surprise, it was a 5-item platter?! It’s better than a little, so there’s no reason to complain! They always exceed expectations in a good way. And…the taste was outstanding.
We had horse mackerel, red sea bream, flounder, hata, and albacore tuna. All were moist and packed with the umami of the fish. And best of all, it went perfectly with KID sake. The sashimi and sake created a blissful moment. I’m glad to be born Japanese!!!
The favorite drink of the author of Slam Dunk!
“Manager!” I call out again and ask for a recommendation. Seeing that there is still sashimi left, I decide to go with a dry sake. I’ll leave it to you!
A very dry sake, “Mitsui no Kotobuki.” Fans of Slam Dunk will definitely respond immediately! It’s named after the author of Slam Dunk, who likes this sake.
It’s quite dry and goes well with sashimi. It has a stronger flavor than the previous one, so you can enjoy the difference between the dry sakes.
We ordered the most popular side dish and the second most popular one!
We ordered the first and second most popular side dishes! Sake is supposed to be the main dish, but this dish is so delicious that it takes over Sake position!? Maybe. But don’t worry. The combination with sake brings out the flavors of each dish even more! This is a true marriage!!!
The most popular dish is grilled bonito belly skin!!
This was my first time eating grilled belly skin! I thought it would just be skin, but there was plenty of meat as well. It was fragrant and juicy, with an exquisite saltiness and fat that goes perfectly with sake. Delicious. The charred parts of the skin were exquisitely tasty.
The second most popular dish, grilled fried tofu with sake kasu mayonnaise, was also delicious. The smell of the sake kasu disappeared with the combination of mayo and fried tofu, creating a mellow flavor. The tartness of the mayonnaise and the crispness of the fried tofu create a wonderful harmony.
It goes perfectly with sake!! It goes perfectly!! So good!
The saltiness of the sake kasu is delicious. It’s said that even if you steal alcohol, you’ll still want to drink it. You’ll really be able to drink sake one after the other.
There is a wide range of type “sweet type” sake! Don’t just call it “dry type” sake.
Generally, there are dry type and sweet type for sakes. Even when it comes to sweet sake, there seems to be a wide range of flavors.
Gohyakumangoku Nama Sake has a clean taste with a rich umami flavor! It is a sake that goes well with food.
TYPE FY2 has a modern, fruity, vibrant taste. I personally love this flavor! It’s a very mellow sake. The flavor will blossom even more as time passes.
Are firefly squid really that delicious?
This quality even though we’re not in Toyama!!! This firefly squid is insanely delicious. It’s just as good as the #1, #2, and #3 most popular dishes. The umami of the squid and the smooth taste unique to firefly squid are complemented by a bitterness and saltiness. This is the first time I’ve had firefly squid that tastes this good.
It goes so well with sake…Wow, what a delicious menu they have! Robosyuan.
This firefly squid was really delicious. And there was a generous amount of it. There was grated daikon radish underneath, which made it even better to eat it with that.
I found crab miso. It doesn’t have a shell, but it’s this good quality.
I was skeptical of crab miso. The crab miso served in restaurants is an artificial imitation, far removed from the miso you eat from a crab with the shell on.
What? It exceeded my expectations. This crab miso has a smooth texture and a very refined and elegant taste. It tasted like the ultimate crab miso. Delicious!!!!
I know I’m repeating myself, but this also goes well with sake. It’s amazing how much they can surprise you with their delicacies, Robosyuan.
Horse meat tartare, pickled wasabi, pickles, grilled rice balls, and nyumen
You’re probably wondering how much to eat, right? I’ve written it all down, but it’s delicious too.
Horse yukke has no unpleasant odor and a mellow, rich flavor that’s delicious.
Itawasa and wasabi are very spicy. It’s also delicious to eat the kamaboko sliced thinly and nibbling on it! It’s frozen at first, but as it melts the spiciness increases. It goes without saying with sake.
The pickles are also carefully selected. The yam pickles are super delicious. I wonder how they get such delicious yam pickles.
Yaki-onigiri is not just a soy sauce onigiri. You should definitely order this!
The clam udon noodles and soup are the perfect way to finish off a meal.
Let’s get to the deeper drinks!
The sake is just as good as the snacks. We keep getting recommendations.
It has a refreshing, spicy taste. It goes well with the side dishes.
It has a fruity taste like dessert wine. This is a very innovative, cute and stylish sake. The name is Mirror Mirror. Mirror Mirror…it’s like the one from Snow White.
I ordered raisin butter to go with my Miller Miller.
It goes well with Mirror Mirror. It’s a dessert.
With the raisin butter on the stick, we ordered another drink to go with it!
This time, it was a Japanese sake with a mellow sweetness, somewhere between whiskey and Shaoxing wine. This was also amazing! It didn’t taste like Japanese sake. It was Takacho. It was a brewing method invented in Nara during the Muromachi period, and is made with raw rice and yeast, resulting in a rich umami flavor.
I was moved by each and every delicacy and deep sake, and I can’t count how many times I exclaimed how delicious it was. It was an irreplaceable, wonderful time.
The shop is a little larger than the Tamachi store. The manager runs around the store talking about his love for sake. The side dishes have been greatly improved. As always, it was fun and delicious, and I ended up staying for a very long time.
It’s a very popular store, so reservations are a must. But it’s worth going. If you like sake and delicacies, you should go at least once in your life. It’s an unforgettable experience.
Stay tuned for more updates of Japan. See you soon!
