While you are in Japan, why not flying a kite in Tokyo? ~Tour #26~

たこあげ Tours in English

日本語版

Kite flying, I think many Japanese enjoyed it when they were little. As an annual New Year’s event, we flew kites in a nearby park or in a rice field near my grandmother’s house.

I would like overseas visitors to experience that fun too! Especially if you have children, please let them fly a kite!

If you want to fly a kite in Tokyo…

There aren’t many large parks in Tokyo, and I couldn’t find a place where I could fly a kite… but I finally found the perfect park.

たこあげ

That’s Koganei Park!!!

Koganei Park is a big park. It is 1.5 times larger than Ueno Park and 5 times larger than Hibiya Park.

You can run around in the vast grounds. In the center of Tokyo, there is not much space of this scale.

Kite flying requires running and letting the wind carry the kite in order to lift it high into the sky. You can’t do it in tight spaces.

It is also a famous spot for cherry blossoms in spring. There are 1,400 cherry trees planted in the park, and there is also a cherry blossom area called “Cherry Blossom Garden”.

Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum

In Koganei Park, there is the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum as well. There are many historical buildings with high cultural value here. You can enjoy the special atmosphere of old days between Edo period and middle of the Showa period.

You can go inside and take a look. It’s a lot of fun to imagine how Japanese people used to live in the past.

Stay tuned for more updates of Japan. See you soon!
