Located in the middle of Kagurazaka, Restaurant Az sits right along the main street, making it easy for first‑time visitors to Japan to find without getting lost. It’s also a convenient spot for meeting up. Inside, you’ll find a surprisingly quiet atmosphere—almost like a hidden retreat tucked away from the bustle.

The name “Az” comes from the idea of wanting guests to enjoy their experience from the beginning to the end.

A Lovely Place
This cozy restaurant is run entirely by one person who handles the sommelier duties, service, and cooking.
The interior features six counter seats facing an open kitchen and one private room.
The calm, grey‑toned space allows you to relax and enjoy your meal at a comfortable pace.
On the right side, you can see the charcoal grill where the dishes are prepared.

Course Menu
All ingredients are sourced directly from producers. The course includes juicy charcoal‑grilled meats and the restaurant’s specialties.
The first dish is dashi‑flavored olives. Then comes a beautiful plate featuring prosciutto, scallops, truffles, and other delicious bites.

After a platter of wonderfully grilled vegetables, the main course arrives: Charcoal‑grilled Hyogo Prefecture “Awaji Wagyu” (keisan‑gyu) sirloin.
Keisan‑gyu refers to cows originally raised for dairy or breeding that later transition to beef cattle. Their meat tends to be slightly firmer with less marbling, but because they are raised with rich nutrition, the flavor becomes uniquely deep depending on how they are cared for afterward. It’s considered quite special.
It was my first time trying it—and it was incredibly delicious.
